Mount Sinai College has always sought to be innovative and progressive in creating learning opportunities for students. Technology is viewed as a tool, an enabler, to enhance the learning outcomes of students across the Key Learning Areas of the Curriculum.

In 2013 the College committed to providing iPads to all students from K - 6. The need to support teachers in integrating technology was recognised as crucial. The College believes strongly that the professional development of teachers is a cornerstone to enablement. Teachers are well supported both internally and externally. There is a strong focus on mentoring, sharing and collaboration. Mount Sinai has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School since 2013 for its effective 1:1 integration of iPads from Kindergarten to Year 6. The Apple Distinguished School designation is reserved for programs that meet the criteria for innovation, leadership, and educational excellence and demonstrate Apple’s vision of exemplary learning environments.

Mount Sinai College is pleased to announce that it has been recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for a 4th designation (2021 – 2024) for its unique implementation of Apple technology. The College has always sought excellence, and our embrace of iPads seems like such a comfortable fit for us. Seeing technology blending quietly with pedagogy in such dynamic and transformative ways is exciting.

A host of multimedia resources, apps and peripherals are available. With a robust, fast and safe network, students are active and enthusiastic users of the technology, which is always at their fingertips.

Changes are constant and a shift towards real integration of STEAM is already underway.

This shift will become apparent in the sorts of experiences in play for students across the school. The College is committed to a makers culture that leverages technologies, thinking and skills incorporating robotics, coding, Minecraft, 3D printing etc.  These capabilities can be accommodated and enhanced in our dynamic iPad environment.

Project-based learning is a natural part of what we do in our classrooms, and we incorporate challenge-based learning (CBL) across K-6.  This provides authentic learning opportunities to publish and interact with broader audiences.

However extensive and powerful technology may be, we also recognise that our students cannot download care, passion, imagination and creativity – instead, they have to upload it the traditional way by reading, writing, reflecting and discussing.
